Julie & Julia the movie. I enjoyed it. This Blogging sensation that is sweeping the World is a curious thing to me. Yes, I have technically two blogs. One started years ago and this one you are currently reading. The latter one I started to practice and learn some of the basic skills of WordPress and Blogs in general to help my clients with theirs. See my picture.¿
My very first computer was an Adam Coleco that loaded it’s operating system off a cassette. The cassette never fit right in the slot or the door didn’t close tight enough. So, it was great aggravation to get it to just start-up. I think it even played games. Oh yes, I remember it had a part that plug into the other part that made up the core of the computer and had two game controls. Don’t remember what the games were that I had for it.
If my memory serves me right, it’s the computer that ran DOS (disk operating system) that I used for my High School Senior computer class. Otherwise, it was my next compute the Apple IIgs that was suppose to be great for graphics. It was even signed by (I think) Woz, something like that spelling. However, back then memory cost a lot and the programs needed more than what the basic computer came with making it an aggravation to get enough memory to run the programs think we went back to the store like 3 times increasing memory just to get the thing to run. We finally got enough memory to run the current programs I had gotten. I did get fed up with it and it lost it’s charm after all that fuss. Don’t remember much else about that Apple, except it had a little mouse learning program where you drive a car and I had my mom try it.
Don’t remember much about the High School computer class except I loved it and my teacher said I was the only one in the class who thought to put a code line that had it read when screen full pause and say press a key to continue. Now you must remember this is years ago and the program was say to give you all your contacts. However, it ran it in a list mode contact after contact, line by line and this assignment had hundreds of lines that ran. So, I just thought this is dumb I can’t read the list if it prints every line and scrolls to the end without stopping. So, I programmed an if screen full then pause and instruct them to press a key when ready to see next screen full. Just made logic to me… This was my first introduction to the computer programming world.
Did you learn in school or on your own how to use a computer?
Do you remember your first account of going online? I have a vague recollection of getting online back when it was mostly user groups and there were not any ‘pretty’ websites to browse. Yes, it was many many moons ago… and I didn’t understand how to use those archaic news groups or interested in learning to navigate. They seemed to be to news heavy and I didn’t see any groups that interested me.
Eventually, as you all know, the World Wide Web affectionately called the Internet for short became visually user friendly. My next online was with AOL and it was fine but expensive and it was more geared towards Community. I live in a rural area and grew up basically alone, no neighbors, or friends near by for that type of comradeship. A co-worker introduced me to Earthlink, remember rural area living, so we had to have dial-up and as those of you in neighborhoods got cable I did not. Yes, it was very slow using but not having used anything else at least I was online and had a browser, not a community, to just go where I wanted to go online.
The World was now available to this country gal and she surfed for hours at a time. Thank goodness for unlimited dial-up…
This is my blog using Word Press off my own domain. Isn’t this fun.
